🌲 About the Trail
The Sol Duc Falls trail is a short, mostly gentle walk through mossy old-growth forest to one of Olympic National Park's most photographed waterfalls.
At the end of the trail, the Sol Duc River splits and drops in several channels into a narrow rock canyon, crossed by a footbridge that gives the classic head-on view. The trail also connects to the Lover's Lane loop and the wider High Divide backcountry network for those continuing farther.

❄️ Sol Duc Hot Springs Road is seasonal and can close in the off-season. Confirm it is open before driving out.
🚗 Access and Parking
The trailhead is at the very end of Sol Duc Hot Springs Road, past the resort. The lot fills midday in summer; arrive early or later in the afternoon.
🎟️ Permit and Fee
No hiking permit is required for the day hike to the falls. A valid Olympic National Park entrance pass is required. Overnight trips into the backcountry beyond the falls require a wilderness permit.
🥾 Trail Conditions
The route is well maintained but includes:
- Packed dirt and some roots
- Occasional mud after rain
- Slippery boards and rock near the falls and bridge
Wear shoes with grip and keep back from wet, unfenced edges at the viewpoint.
