🏔️ About Longmire & Paradise

Mount Rainier is a glaciated 14,411-foot volcano ringed by wildflower meadows, old-growth forest, and dozens of glaciers. The southwest corridor, entered at Nisqually, is the park's most popular and includes the historic Longmire district and the famous Paradise area.

Longmire holds the park's original developed area, with a historic inn, museum, and gentle forest walks. The road then climbs past roadside waterfalls to Paradise, a subalpine meadow basin below the mountain that bursts with wildflowers in summer and offers the park's most iconic close-up views.

🥾 Trails & Stops

📅 Best Time to Visit

🌼 Late July–August — Peak Wildflowers

The Paradise meadows peak in mid-to-late summer, one of the best wildflower displays in the country.

☀️ September — Fewer Crowds

Early fall brings quieter trails, though the first snows can arrive by month's end at elevation.

🌼 Stay on hardened paths and designated trails — the subalpine meadows are fragile and slow to recover.

🚗 Access and Parking

Enter via the Nisqually Entrance and work up the mountain slowly. Paradise parking fills early on clear summer days — arrive before 7 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

🎟️ Fees and Reservations

A valid Mount Rainier / Interagency entrance pass is required.

🎟️ Mount Rainier does not require timed-entry reservations in 2026, but parking can still fill. Confirm current rules on the official fees page.

⚠️ Alpine Safety

• Snow can linger on the Skyline Loop into July — carry offline navigation
• Afternoon thunderstorms and whiteouts build quickly
• Do not follow footprints across snow without confirming the route
• Carry layers, water, and sun protection
