🌊 About Kīlauea Point
Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is a dramatic oceanfront viewpoint built around the historic Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Point Lighthouse.
This is a sightseeing stop rather than a hike. From the parking area, a short paved path with a slight incline leads to the lighthouse, coastal overlooks, and wildlife-viewing areas. The walk normally takes about five minutes each way.
The refuge sits above steep sea cliffs and offers broad views across the Pacific. Depending on the season, visitors may see red-footed boobies, Laysan albatrosses, wedge-tailed shearwaters, tropicbirds, nēnē, spinner dolphins, monk seals, and migrating humpback whales.
