🌲 About Forks

Forks is the largest town on the western Olympic Peninsula and the practical service base for the coast, the Hoh Rain Forest, and the Sol Duc and Bogachiel valleys.

Historically a timber town, Forks is also widely known as the setting of the Twilight novels, which draw a steady stream of themed visitors. For most road trippers it is the last reliable place to fuel up, stock groceries, and grab a meal before the rainforest and beaches.

✨ Why Stop

Forks is especially useful for:

  • ⛽ Fuel before the Hoh, Sol Duc, and coastal drives
  • 🛒 Groceries, supplies, and dining
  • 🛏️ Lodging as a base for the west peninsula
  • 🌲 Local timber history at the Forks Timber Museum
  • 🧛 Twilight-themed sights and shops
  • 🗺️ A staging point for La Push and Ruby Beach

📅 Best Time to Visit

☀️ June–September — Driest Season

Summer is the driest and busiest season, and the best time to base here for peninsula exploring.

🌧️ October–May — Wet Season

Forks is one of the rainiest towns in the contiguous US. Expect heavy rain, greener surroundings, and far fewer visitors outside summer.

🚗 Access and Parking

Forks sits directly on US 101, with easy roadside parking and services. It is roughly a 45-minute drive from the Hoh entrance and about 15 minutes from La Push.

🎟️ Fees and Reservations

No fees apply to the town itself. Book lodging ahead in peak summer, when peninsula rooms fill quickly.

⚠️ Practical Notes

  • Fill your tank here — gas is sparse toward the coast and rainforest
  • Cell service thins out quickly once you leave town
  • Download offline maps before heading to the Hoh or the beaches
